Nature-Based Solutions

September 29, THU  /  16:00 - 17:30

Nature-based solutions can be used to mitigate certain social, economic, and political problems in urban areas, to make cities more resilient to climate change, and through green areas to improve the quality of life of urban residents and increase biodiversity in urban environments.

Nature-based solutions are actions to protect, sustainably manage and restore natural and modified ecosystems in ways that effectively and adaptively address social problems while providing both human well-being and biodiversity benefits.

They are based on the benefits inherent to healthy ecosystems and address major challenges such as climate change, disaster risk reduction, food and water security, and healthcare; they are critical to inclusive, long-term, successful economic prosperity and development.

Nature-based solutions use the tools they already provide to deal with key issues arising from poor land or other resource use, climate change, or social problems.

These solutions often improve the existing natural or man-made infrastructure and stimulate long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits.

The discussion session will include the following questions:

  • Nature is humanity's savings bank account;
  • Nature-based solutions in business models and national priorities of the state;
  • Financing natural solutions;
  • Using nature-based solutions as an effective means of combating climate change;
  • Environmentalism as a new trend.
