Further to the Ecumene 2021 Congress on sustainable finance, which was held at the end of September 2021 in Moscow, Viacheslav Fetisov, UN Goodwill Ambassador and Gazprombank JSC with support of International and Comparative Research Center and BE2B organized roundtables at the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
Round table 1
Energy Transition
Many are talking about a new technological revolution.
However, as the last few months have shown, the issue needs to be taken seriously. It is impossible to immediately move from a brown economy to a green one. It takes time, political will and financial resources.
Speakers discussed the energy transition, hydrogen and nuclear power, oil and gas, CO2 emissions and methane leaks.
Speakers were representatives of the UN, states, big business and academia.
Round table 2
Sustainable Finance
Addressing climate change will require enormous financial resources that no other state in the world possesses.
Joint public-private efforts are needed to fund the energy transition and develop a sustainable economy, including its ‘green’ component.
The financial sector needs uniform, international, harmonized rules for responsible finance.
Representatives of the UN, major global and Russian financial institutions, regulatory authorities, verifiers and academia spoke during the discussion session.
Round table 3
Sustainable Development in the Arctic
The Russian Federation currently leads the Arctic Council, and the European Union has issued a long-term strategy for the development of the Arctic.
What key areas of development are possible in the region. What the priorities of the Arctic Council states are. What the Arctic may offer to the world.
Representatives of states, big business, NGOs and academia spoke during the session.
Political and regulatory development, the balance between economic and environmental development in the region, responsible finance and shipping, mining, soot issues and climate change, and the future of local populations were addressed.
The results of all discussion sessions were sent to the UNFCCC Secretariat and to the President of the Russian Federation.
