How will the international biodiversity conservation agenda affect governments and business in the near future? What are the key trends that will shape this agenda?
When analyzing the factors that will affect business in the context of sustainable development, companies often focus primarily on issues related to climate change. Few pay attention to the risks and opportunities of another area that will also have a significant impact on their business – biodiversity conservation.
In October 2021, China will host a major UN event on biodiversity conservation in Kunming, it will be the 15th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
During the upcoming Conference, it is planned to sign the Kunming Agreement on Biodiversity, which can become the second Paris Climate Agreement by level of its importance.
One of the breakthrough reports analyzing the impact of biodiversity on business and the economy was published in February 2021 by the UK Department for Foreign Affairs and International Development. Professor Partha Dasgupta, the lead author of the review, will tell us about risks and opportunities that businesses will have to deal with.
